Ability to Classify Projects by Type

Issue

Tenants (esp Commercial and New Construction) have many projects in progress at once, and need a way to organize them in Reporting and Search, or easily distinguish projects on a customer profile

Value

The ability to report on project details by Type allows the tenant to view the average and range of labor costs, labor charges, revenue, and other expenses across all projects of a certain classification (in situations where BU classifications fail). This can help them build estimates more efficiently (when accounting for expected labor charge) and also understand where to build efficiencies within their processes for their less profitable projects.

Down the road, if we choose to build out the Project Tracking feature even more, to allow tenants to track critical activities that need to occur within the lifecycle of a project (e.g. creating a po, submitting for a permit, rescheduling a job, etc.), tenants can set those standard steps on the Project Type level, which would help make the project creation process more efficient.

Potential Solution
Build a way to classify projects, by adding a Project Type field. Users would be able to create a list of common project types in Settings, and assign individual Projects to a single type

Win

  • Drive profitability — users can filter reports by specific project types to report on past labor cost for that project type

  • Increase efficiency — users can report on projects of a specific type to better understand past Labor Costs, and make informed adjustments to their cost of future contracts. Eliminates manual tracking, and allows for quicker more intentional contract values
